Hamburger S.V. is a Bundesliga club from Hamburg, Germany. It was founded in 1887 and may be better known as HSV. They play their home matches in the Imtech Arena, which holds a capacity of over 50,000 seats. Colours of the club are black, blue, red and white. The crest only shows black, blue and white aspects, whereas the home kit has red shorts, white shirts and blue socks. The head coach of HSV is Thorsten Fink, who has played for Bayern Munich for most of his active career. After being the coach of Red Bull Salzburg, Ingolstadt 04 and Basel, became trainer of Hamburger SV in 2011. HSV's chairman is Carl-Edgar Jarchow, who is a German politician for the FDP party and who has his origins in Hamburg. The main sponsor of HSV is Emirates, who have been associated with Hamburger SV since 2006.
HSV have sic national titles, but the last one was won some thirty years ago, in 1983 when the prolongated the 1982 title. Ever since 1987 HSV has not had a better end ranking than runners-up. Also the German cup was last won in 1987, for a total of three wins. Internationally, HSV did win a Champions League once, namely in 1983. It was their second final in three years, but in 1980 HSV lost to Nottingham Forest. This time however, HSV won from Juventus, to take the 1983 Champions League. The Cup winners' Cup was also won once, in 1977. The UEFA Cup was never won, as being the 1982 runners-up has been their best performance in the Europa League till today.
Captain of HSV is German Heiko Westermann who has been playing for HSV since 2010. Also notable are Rafael van der Vaart who has played for HSV before, but is back after having played for Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspurs and swede Marcus Berg who started his international career in the Netherlands but has been a player of HSV since 2009. Former players of HSV are Ivica Olic, Daniel van Buyten and Marek Heinz. All time top scorer however is Uwe Seeler, who made 137 goals between 1953 and 1972.
There are rivalries with regional top club Werder Bremen who also play in a nothern city and the match HSV Werder is thus called Nordderby.
