FC Twente

FC TwenteCountry: Holland
Competition: Eredivisie
website: FC Twente
Wiki: wiki
Founded in: 1965
Stadium: Grolsch Veste
Coach: Steve McClaren
Traditionally the highest dutch professional football division, Eredivisie, has been dominated by the big three, Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord. However, since a few years, a fourth club has come forward. This club is FC Twente from the eastern city of Enschede. FC Twente was founded after a fusion of Sportclub Enschede and Enschedese Boys in 1965 and play their home matches in stadium the Grolsch Veste with a capacity of 30,000. Red is the clubs home colour, which is reflected in both the crest and the home kit. Chairman of FC Twente is Joop Munsterman, a dutch businessman. The position of manager/trainer is vacant as Steve McClaren, who also managed Twente when they won their first national title, left at the end of February 2013. The sponsor of FC Twente is Arke and Nike.

FC Twente has risen to the top of the Eredivisie in recent years, winning the national title in 2010 and being the runners-up in 2009 and 2011. Also the KNVB Cup was won for the third time in 2011, when Twente beat Ajax in a thriller with 3-2 in extra time. The national championship was the first since the founding of FC Twente in 1965. Internationally FC Twente has not achieved a lot. The only serious performance was in 1975, when Twente became runners-up in the UEFA Cup. After having won from Juventus, Twente lost to Borussia Monchengladbach in the finals with 5-1.

Players that deserve extra attention are former football players Marc Janko who plays for Trabzonspor now, Brian Ruiz, who made a transfer to Fulham and Blaise Nkufo who is the all time top scorer of FC Twente. In the current squad of FC Twente, players that are notable or famous in the Netherlands are Sander Boschker who has been goalkeeper of FC Twente since 1989, Douglas, who was born Brazilian, but has become Dutch and who has been playing for FC Twente since 2007.

The main rivalry which involved Twente is not against either of the traditional top teams of the Netherlands, Ajax Feyenoord PSV, but has more to do with the regional close distance of FC Twente, who play in Enschede and Heracles Almelo. Their derby is called Derby of Twente and so far 24 editions (Heracles has played in the second division for a long time) have been played, of which FC Twente won fifteen times, Heracles Almelo fout times, and the Derby ended in a draw only five times. However matches against either Ajax Feyenoord PSV may have more depth and interesting plays, so make sure to have registered for free and watch these dutch top matches live and streaming for free!
